Walk Around Lake Merritt
Lake Merritt is awesome and one of the cooler areas to explore in Oakland. You can either commit to the 3-mile loop around the lake or just enjoy the city views, wildlife, and boats until you want to wander off and do something else.
Fun things to find along the way:
-Gnomes (east side of the lake:) There are about 2,300 gnomes planted around Oakland. You'll find some close by on Broolynn Ave, Lakeshore Park, and quite a few along MacArthur Blvd.
-Bonsai Garden (north end): This garden holds over 100 Bonsai trees and very peaceful.
-Nipsy Hustle Mural (north end): Incredible and famous mural of Nipsy located on Ellita & Grand Ave
-Edoff Memorial Bandstand (north end): Great spot for those IG photos with a great park around it.
-Camron-Stanford House (west end): 19th-century Victorian mansion where quite a few influential people lived, and in 1907 became the city's first museum.
-Lake Merritt Amphitheater (south end): Most of the time, this is a popular spot for skaters to jump the stairs, but it also has a nice grassy knoll and stone stairs to sit on.
If you want to take this walk to the next level, you can even download a free audio guide to listen to as you walk.
